Geology & Environmental Studies

Earth Scientists or ‘Geologists’ explore for, discover, develop, and manage minerals by understanding the interacting systems of the solid earth, atmosphere, hydrosphere, and biosphere as they evolve through time.

There are three universities in Queensland that offer full Bachelor degrees in Earth Science.

Bachelor of Science (Geological Sciences), The University of Queensland.
Bachelor of Applied Science (Geoscience), Queensland University of Technology
Bachelor of Geology, James Cook University.
Bachelor of Science (Geology), James Cook University.

Environmental Studies include Environmental Management, Environmental Science and Environmental Engineering. All of these professions are concerned with integrating an understanding of economics and ecology to utilise and conserve natural systems. Environmental Engineers for example, consider the environment at the design stage of project development.

There are a range degrees related to Environmental Studies offered at a wide range of universities throughout Queensland.

Bachelor of Environmental Management, The University of Queensland.
Bachelor of Environmental Science, The University of Queensland.
Bachelor of Applied Science (Geoscience), Queensland University of Technology.
Bachelor of Environmental Science, CQUniversity Australia.
Bachelor of Science (Environmental Science), James Cook University.
Bachelor of Engineering (Environmental), The University of Queensland.
Bachelor of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Queensland University of Technology.

I am a Gold Coast local. I enjoy life - hanging out with friends, and Facebook! I am studying civil and environmental engineering at QUT. Why? Its apparent that our global society is facing many challenges in the area of sustainable energy sources and resources. So, I believe that the resources industry is increasingly significant and has great potential for young people like you and me!

I'm a shopaholic, a chocoholic and I am studying environmental engineering at UQ. Its hard work but great fun and will help me achieve my totally cliché career goal of helping to save the planet. Besides trying to keep up with uni I enjoy hanging out with my mates and listening to music.

When I was growing up I was an outgoing, chatty country kid. I much rather living in a regional area than in 'the big smoke' which is why I decided to study a Bachelor of Environmental Science at CQUniversity. I have graduated now to work with GHD Mackay. In my spare time I enjoy the beach, scuba diving and spear fishing (a bit of a contradiction to the whole hippie enviro chick I know!)

While I was studying a Bachelor of Engineering (Environment) at UQ I held a Thiess -QRC Women in Engineering Scholarship. My aspiration has always been to work in the resources sector either on a mine site or as a consultant. Throughout my degree I was lucky enough to do a few stints of vac work. Now that I have graduated, I am doing a bit of travel before I start working full time.
