Electrical & Power Engineering

Electrical Engineers work on systems for the generation, distribution, utilisation and control of electric power with equipment ranging from heavy power generators to tiny computer chips. Power Engineering is a specialised area within electrical engineering. Power Engineers plan, design, construct, operate and maintain power systems and equipment that generates, transports and distributes electricity.

Electrical Engineering is offered widely at universities throughout Queensland.

Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical), The University of Queensland.
Bachelor of Electrical Engineering, Queensland University of Technology.
Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical), CQUniversity Australia.
Bachelor of Engineering (Co-op)/Diploma of Professional Practice (Engineering), CQUniversity Australia.
Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical and Electronic), James Cook University.
Associate and Bachelor Degree in Engineering (Electrical and Electronic), University of Southern Queensland.

The Australian Power Institute’s (API) Power Engineering website is a valuable resource for researching Electrical and Power Engineering careers.

Engineering is a way of life and I'm living it to the fullest! I go to uni, play heaps of sports, hang out with my mates, hit the town, get to study some of the most interesting stuff out there and have a ball of a time doing it all.

Hey, I'm Adam and I am currently studying Electrical Engineering at UQ. After I obtain my degree I hope to start a career working at one of the many mines in Australia. I have a mining background as I was raised in Dysart, a mining town 245km west of Mackay. I enjoy going out with the new mates I've met through living on campus but I still manage to balance socializing with my major uni responsibilities.

I’ve been a Brisbane local all of my life and I’m currently studying engineering at QUT. I am looking forward to spending my holidays participating in work experience out at the mines, as I see this as an important step in securing a future within the mining and energy sector. In five years time, I hope I am not living at home because this will probably indicate I haven’t gone very far in my career. Whether I am up north, out west or in an entirely new country, I will embrace the situation. With the prospect to someday work around the world it’s hard not to be excited!
